Description
OGame is a popular free
online strategy game that is text-based. This game was only launched in
2006, but it already has millions of players worldwide. Players start out
with a single undeveloped world and attempt to build a huge empire in the
universe. Along the way to their empire, players can form alliances with
other players, research technologies to improve space ships, and perform
various missions. Alliances are similar to guilds and serve many functions
such offering members protection, enabling free trade among members, and
consolidating forces for attacks. Although the game is text-based, OGame
still looks good and has more action than most other games in the genre.

Gameforge GmbH is, quite literally, a
gamesmith. This internationally active company develops and publishes
Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) games.
In addition to its own blockbusters like OGame and Vendetta, the company
licenses, internationalizes and markets products for worldwide publication.
These games are adapted to the linguistic and cultural requirements of the
respective market, and then cross-media and innovative viral campaigns are
used to advertise and promote them to their target audiences.
A fundamental component in the creation and sustainability of viral
marketing campaigns are the huge communities which form around the games.
Community managers with many years of experience look after each game and
ensure that every user around the globe receives a high level of support in
his or her own language. Gameforge’s games are leading their respective
genres in terms of technology and quality. The developers ensure that the
games always reflect the technological state of the art and are constantly
developing new features to ensure sustainable gameplay.
With twelve games in up to 16 languages, as well as with many more than four
million active players around the world, Gameforge is the uncontested market
leader in its sector.
Another string to the company’s bow is the licensing of Asian client-based
MMO games for the European market. These products are localized by the
company’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Gameforge 4D GmbH, into various different
languages and launched on the appropriate markets.
The company’s subsidiary, palado, works with Gameforge to create and
distribute innovative, target-group-appropriate advertising.
As of mid-2006, Gameforge, which is headquartered in Karlsruhe, had 40
